- Associate Professor, University of Sydney
Andrew is a microbial ecologist at the University of Sydney. He is based in the Microbiology unit within the School of Molecular Bioscience (sydney.edu.au/science/molecular_bioscience/) and also associated with the Charles Perkins Centre (sydney.edu.au/perkins/). The major focus of his research is the gut ecosystem where the objective is to develop the capacity to manipulate the gut microbiota to improve human health. As a consequence of this he has a wonderful poo collection in his freezers. He did his PhD at the University of Queensland and has also had stints at Warwick (UK) and Macquarie University (Sydney) before joining the University of Sydney where he is now Associate Professor. He is an Editor for Microbiology, and a member of the Editorial Boards of Applied and Environmental Microbiology and The ISME Journal.
