Andrew Gardner a Lecturer of Integrated Studies at Mercer University. Previously he was a Visiting Faculty Associate of American Religious History and Louisville Institute Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Hartford Institute for Religion Research. He received his PhD from Florida State University, writing on the history and development of theological education in the United States. Andrew holds research interests in American religious history, theological education, congregational studies, religion and race, and spatial theory. He has published articles in Implicit Religion, Religion and American Culture, Church History, The Journal of Church and State, and several others. His book "Binkley: A Congregational History" was published by the University of Tennessee Press in 2023. His current book project, "A Pastor For Every Thousand Souls: Nationalism, Imperialism, and the Politics of Theological Education 1807-1860," will be published with UNC Press in Spring 2027.
