André Schultz works as a clinician and researcher with children and families affected by chronic lung disease. He researches questions relevant to his patients.
André is an avid local advocate for paediatric lung health and is also regularly invited to speak at national and international conferences. He has published 33 papers (25 as first or senior author) in peer reviewed journals including the highly regarded Nature Communications and Lancet Respiratory Medicine. His research has informed the Australian Asthma Handbook and the Global Initiative for Asthma guidelines.
His current research includes optimizing lung health in Aboriginal children, the airway surface micro environment in cystic fibrosis, unresolved grief in parents of children with cystic fibrosis, biomarkers in lung disease, and developing cell culture based disease models of rare lung disease. He is the clinical lead on the BEAT CF study, a multicenter clinical trial which has recently been funded in excess of $3.4M to utilize novel and complex methods to answer multiple research questions in parallel in order to optimize care for people with cystic fibrosis.
André is a paediatric respiratory physician and the Director of Cystic Fibrosis at Perth Children’s Hospital. He holds a PhD in paediatric lung health.
