- Associate Professor of Romance Languages and Literatures, Latin America, Binghamton University, State University of New York
Ana Ros is an Associate Professor of Hispanic Studies at Binghamton University. Her doctoral work at the University of Michigan (2002–2008) marked the beginning of an academic career focused on understanding how collective memory of Latin America’s dictatorial pasts is constructed, transmitted, and mobilized in the struggle to prevent the recurrence of authoritarianism and violence. Her first book, The Post-Dictatorship Generation in Argentina, Chile, and Uruguay: Collective Memory and Cultural Production (2012), has become an indispensable work in the field of memory studies. Since then, she has published articles and book chapters in leading venues specializing in political conflict and state repression, including Genocide Studies and Prevention: An International Journal and Revista de Estudios sobre Genocidio.
In recent years, Ros' research has focused on the turn toward the figure of the perpetrator of dictatorial repression—rather than its victims—in cultural productions committed to the defense of human rights in Latin America. Her second book, Lecciones del giro perpetrador en América Latina, 2010–2020 (2025), argues that this regional shift was configured most clearly in Chile, and it invites further reflection on authoritarianism, oppression, and resistance across diverse historical and political contexts.
Furthermore, Ros' participation in conferences, fellowships, research groups, and institutional affiliations has been valuable in the development of her ideas and academic production.
