- Senior Research Fellow, University of Wollongong
After completing a Bachelor of Biotechnology (Advanced program) Honours Class 1 and Doctor of Philosophy (Biochemistry and Cell biology) at the University of Wollongong, Australia I was employed as producer of the Henry Stewart Talks Ltd. Biomedical and Life Sciences Collection in London, UK. I was then awarded a National Health and Medical Research Council Early Career Fellowship and completed postdoctoral training in the Department of Chemistry, University of Cambridge, UK. Concomitantly, I was the recipient of a Junior Research Fellowship from Wolfson College, Cambridge. I have returned to the University of Wollongong and currently lead a team focused on understanding the relationship between protein misfolding and inflammation. These processes underlie many debilitating human disorders including Alzheimer's disease, preeclampsia, arthritis and macular degeneration. A deeper understanding of the molecular mechanisms that control protein misfolding and inflammation could lead to the development of broad reaching therapeutic strategies.
