Amrita DasGupta is a PhD candidate at the Centre for Gender Studies, School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS University of London). Her research examines the intersections of gender, environmental change, migration, and political history in Bengal and the Indian Ocean world. Drawing on over a decade of archival and ethnographic research in West Bengal and Bangladesh, she has published on Bengal's environmental politics, the social consequences of the 1947 Partition, caste, climate migration, and the cultural and political histories of the Sundarbans.

Her work has appeared in the Journal of Asian Studies, Economic and Political Weekly, Environment and History, Anthropology Now, and other leading journals. She has also written extensively for public audiences on Bengali politics, culture, and society, in Scroll, The Frontier Web.
