I am a Professor in Physiotherapy at the School of Allied Health, Faculty of Education and Health Sciences, University of Limerick, Ireland and currently an Extraordinary Ass Prof, Division of Physiotherapy, Department of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, Stellenbosch University, Cape Town South Africa.
I have over 19 years of lecturing and research experience, and published 3 book chapters and over 95 peer reviewed articles. My research includes the design and evaluation of evidence-based programmes for health and wellbeing of across the lifespan and for people living with neurological conditions. I have a special interest in the role of arts-based interventions for health and wellbeing and was Principal Investigator, on the recently completed Health Research Board funded DIFA research project Music and Movement for Health and wellbeing of older adults.
I previously worked clinically as a physiotherapist in the UK with experience in acute and rehabilitation settings. I am a member of the Health Research Institute and Ageing Research Centre at the University of Limerick and actively involved in community outreach. I was part of a community education initiative that received a commendation at the Irish Medical Times Healthcare Awards in the category of Best Patient Education Project, which an example of how I made a meaningful contribution to community outreach and informed dance practice nationally.
