Dr Amaka Emordi earned a B.Sc., M.Sc., and PhD in political science from the University of Ibadan Nigeria.
Her research is focused on political theory, democratisation, gender, development studies, peace and conflict, and local and government studies.
Amaka is the award winner of the University of Michigan African Presidential Scholars (UMAPS) Fellows Award Program 2023/2024.

Amaka T.O. Emordi worked in the multinational manufacturing industry before joining Obafemi Awolowo University in 2016. She won the Conflict Research West Africa (CORN) and United States Institute for Peace SoPin 11 Nigerian Research 2022 as co-lead researcher. She won an International Peace Association Research partial grant to present a paper at the World Peace Conference in Kenya in 2020. She was invited to present a paper at the UN Economic Commission for Africa's Conference on Land Policy for Africa (CLPA) 2021. Consequently, she was admitted to the Network of Excellence and Land Governance in Africa (NELGA). Amaka Emordi has been a member of the International Research Institute (IPRA) Kenya since 2020. In 2015, she won the Brown University Advance Research Fellowship drawn from 60 countries worldwide. In Nigeria, she is a certified member of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission Special Control Unit against Money Laundering and a member of the Nigerian Political Science Association (NPSA).
