Allison Altman Singles

  • Associate Professor of Kinesiology and Mechanical Engineering, Penn State

Dr. Allison Singles serves as an associate professor of both kinesiology and mechanical engineering at Penn State Berks. research focuses on the mechanical consequence of gait and functional movement on bone and the musculoskeletal system.

One branch of Dr. Singles' research investigates the effect of impact loading during running on bone injury. This research utilizes gait and movement analysis techniques to map 3D body motion and estimate the forces on the body during activity. These forces are used as input for computational models, derived from clinical computed tomography images, which are used to estimate the forces experienced by the bone tissue responsible for injury.

Another branch of research investigates the effect of bone pathology and disease on function. This aspect utilizes advanced bone imaging techniques to visualize the tissue and estimate the response to everyday activities.
