Alix Violet Freckelton

I am a Research Fellow in the School of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Birmingham. My research focuses on stars and planets beyond our Solar System, particularly using stellar spectroscopy to understand the physical properties of stars and their orbiting planets.

I obtained my PhD from the University of Birmingham in July 2026, during which I developed an automated tool for analysing stellar spectra, and applied it to large datasets of stars involved in exoplanet searches. My work overall aims to improve how accurately we can characterise stars, which is essential for measuring the size, mass, and habitability of exoplanets.

I'm extremely passionate about science communication, outreach, and making astronomy accessible. I'm utterly devoted to the search for Earth-like worlds, and have strong enthusiasm for conveying the realities of astronomical research, and how astrophysics is represented in film, TV, and popular culture.
