In 2010, Alison received a PhD from the University of Calgary in biological anthropology (with a primatology specialisation) studying the roles of food supply, nutrition, stress hormones and parasitism in the recovery of a wild primate population from a hurricane.

Since 2011, Alison has been in the School of Archaeology and Anthropology at the Australian National University, where she is currently a professor in biological anthropology and head of school. Alison was previously an ARC DECRA fellow and is currently a member of the ARC College of Experts.

Alison's research interests include understanding the impacts of changing environments on all primates, both non-human and human.
