- Senior Research Associate, School of Biological Sciences, University of East Anglia
I’m currently a senior research associate investigating how the environment affects fertility.
I have vast expertise in developing novel CRISPR methods to knock out genes, small RNAs and many other molecules in broad and tissue specific manners.
My PhD project involved investigating the role of microRNAs in Xenopus neural crest development. Neural crest is a stem cell population that gives rise to many parts of the human body, notably the crank of axial skeleton. MicroRNAs are short non coding RNAs that can affect gene expression, like a molecular sponge silencing genes.
I hold a masters degree in molecular medicine from University of Essex covering molecular biology. In this I conducted an extended research project on cancer biology, looking at treatment resistance and apoptosis mechanisms. I also hold a bachelors degree in Bioscience from University of Suffolk, where I learned a range of subjects from Developmental biology, biotechnology, genomics and more. I conducted a research project looking at retinoid receptors in spinal cord regeneration.
