Dr Alice Crossley is a Senior Lecturer in English Literature (University of Lincoln) and a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society. She is currently working on a book examining British and American paper ephemera (greetings cards, trade cards, rewards of merit, etc) through the lenses of material and visual cultures, the history of emotion, and identity construction. Alice is a 2024-25 short-term Fellow at the Huntington and the Bodleian Libraries. She was also the 2023–2024 William H. Helfand Fellow in American Visual Culture at the Library Company of Philadelphia, and a recent recipient of a fellowship at the American Antiquarian Society.

In addition to her research on material and visual cultures in the nineteenth century, Alice also writes extensively on age and masculinity in Victorian fiction. As well as co/editing two journal special issues on ageing, she’s published a book on Male Adolescence in Victorian Fiction (Routledge 2018), and recent articles for 19, Poetics Today, and Yearbook of English Studies, in addition to multiple book chapters.
