- Advisor for the Centre of Geopolitics of Global Change, ODI Global
Ali Serim is an international advisor and prominent advocate for climate diplomacy, whose distinguished career spans corporate governance, sustainable development, and public-private partnerships. Beginning his professional journey at Ernst & Young, Serim has since occupied senior positions at the nexus of finance, policy, and strategic advisory. He is widely recognised for his ability to align institutional frameworks with private sector innovation, with particular emphasis on climate resilience, geopolitical risk, and infrastructure finance as levers for sustainable transformation. With a deep understanding of the evolving dynamics of the global energy transition, Serim advocates for pragmatic pathways toward decarbonisation—including the strategic deployment of nuclear energy as a stable, zero-emission baseload solution.
His expertise also extends to the development of critical trade corridors such as the Middle Corridor—a transcontinental initiative linking Central Asia to Europe—where he advances climate-conscious investment, regional connectivity, and energy security. In his capacity as Special Envoy of Vanuatu and Special Representative of the Commonwealth Secretary-General at COP29, Serim played a pivotal role in ensuring that the voices of Small Island Developing States (SIDS) were amplified at the highest levels of global climate diplomacy.
