Alexandra Deprez

  • Research Fellow, International Climate Governance, Iddri, Sciences Po

Alexandra Deprez is a research fellow on international climate governance at IDDRI-Sciences Po. Alexandra has policy expertise on the Paris Agreement’s transparency framework and climate mitigation elements including in the Global Stocktake, with civil society and government experience. She also writes and works at the science-policy interface on the synergies and trade-offs between the climate change and biodiversity loss crises, and how to better align ambitious action within the UN Climate convention and across the UN Rio Conventions. She has a background in anthropology, and interdisciplinary environmental science and policy.

Alexandra is the lead author of a 2024 article in Science on the sustainability limits of carbon removals, which finds the sustainable potential is highly limited, hence reinforcing the importance of prioritizing - in the upcoming IPCC cycle and in international negotiations - steep emission cuts in order to reach net zero emissions by mid-century to keep the 1.5C Paris Agreement limit.
