Alexander Plum

I am Associate Director (Economics & Research) of the New Zealand Policy Research Institute (NZPRI) and the Lead Researcher of the Community Research Group. I joined the institute in 2017 and am an applied micro-economist focused on labour, health, and crime topics. My research centres around traditionally marginalised communities such as the low-paid population, Rainbow+ people, ethnic minorities, and individuals in contact with the criminal justice system. I aim to identify policy-relevant scope to improve the well-being of these populations in Aotearoa. Before joining NZPRI, I studied economics in Mannheim and Berlin and did my PhD in Magdeburg (all Germany).
