Alex Newman

Alex is a Research Associate at the Grantham Centre for Sustainable Futures, University of Sheffield, and an Associate Consultant with Foresight Transitions Ltd. His work focuses on life cycle assessment (LCA), social impact modelling, and sustainability strategy. Alex’s PhD focussed on the development of novel frameworks for holistic sustainability assessment across fast-moving consumer goods value chains, integrating environmental, economic, and social factors.
His current research includes work on the EU-funded BUDDIE-PACK project, developing sustainable models for reusable plastic packaging. He has published on topics ranging from circular carbon economies to multi-criteria decision-making in LCA and the quantification of social impacts. Alex’s broader academic interests centre on the practical application of lifecycle thinking to decarbonisation, infrastructure deployment, and the transition to sustainable industrial ecosystems.
