Alex Albinski is a DPhil student in Atmospheric, Oceanic and Planetary Physics at the University of Oxford, where he is part of the Intelligent Earth Centre for Doctoral Training. His research uses computational modelling and machine learning to understand environmental systems, from the ocean to the atmosphere.

He holds a Master's in Earth Sciences from Oxford, where his thesis, supervised by Professor Helen Johnson, traced the sources of marine plastic debris reaching the Seychelles. By combining ocean current simulations with satellite-tracked vessel data, the work assessed how much of the pollution washing up on the islands comes from shipping and fishing activity, and was published in Marine Pollution Bulletin in 2026. He presented the findings at the European Geosciences Union General Assembly the same year.

His current doctoral research, supervised by Dr Hannah Christensen, applies machine learning to weather and climate data to improve forecasting across energy systems, in collaboration with the National Energy System Operator.
