Alejandro Antón Fernández

  • Profesor Ayudante Doctor - Facultad CC Salud- Depto. Neurociencia y Ciencias Biomédicas, Universidad Carlos III

Alejandro Antón Fernández is a neurobiologist currently serving as a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Neuroscience and Biomedical Sciences at Carlos III University of Madrid.
His initial research phase took place within the framework of the Blue Brain and Human Brain Projects in the Cajal Cortical Circuits Laboratory (under Javier Defelipe and Alberto Muñoz supervision), where he worked on collecting microanatomical data to simulate a portion of rodent cerebral cortex using supercomputers.
His second research phase, conducted at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), the Massachusetts Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (Harvard Medical School), and the University of Edinburgh, focused on Alzheimer’s disease and its partial animal models, primarily studying microanatomical alterations in the cerebral cortex and their relationship with tauopathy.
In his most recent phase at the Severo Ochoa Molecular Biology Center (CSIC), in Jesús Ávila’s laboratory, his work has centered on exploring various strategies to epigenetically rejuvenate cortical neurons in aged mice, with the ultimate goal of preventing or delaying the onset of neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s, given its strong correlation with aging.
