Alberto is a Research Fellow at the University of Melbourne, Co-Chair of the WMO Coordinated Ocean Wave Climate Project (COWCliP), and Co-Lead of Working Group 1 for Australia's National Partnership for Climate Projections. He is affiliated with CSIRO.

Alberto is an ocean and wave climate scientist recognised internationally for his research on wave and wind climate variability and change, and the implications for coastal and marine infrastructure, offshore energy, and climate adaptation. His research has contributed to IPCC AR6 and major Australian wind wave climate datasets. He has a growing body of work translating wave and wind climate science to offshore renewable energy, including assessments of offshore wind resource resilience under future climate projections.
