Alastair has been a significant contributor in the fields of education, design and engineering. He completed his PhD at Auckland University of Technology after having spent three years as Director of Unlimited Paenga Tawhiti in Christchurch and spending twelve years as a senior lecturer at the University of Auckland. He is passionate about improving the quality of learning experiences for students and especially the exploration of spatial conditions for future-focused learning. His research and ideas have contributed to a number of successful design developments. He has spent the last four years as an assessment analyst at NZQA in both Assessment and Moderation and Quality Assurance Divisions. Alastair has immersed himself in developing creative networks that have resulted in the production of ecosystems that create powerful learners, advocate learner agency and encourage creativity and entrepreneurialism. He has published internationally in the fields of the spatiality, creativity, innovative environments, and applied technology and design. His research and learning interests are design, creativity, cognition, pedagogy, technology, educational psychology, educational environments and future focused teaching & learning.
