Akrum holds a BSc in Accounting from Alexandria University, Egypt, an MRes and a PhD in Environmental Accounting from University of Aberdeen and an MA in Teaching & Learning in Higher Education from Keele University. He joined Keele University in September 2012 as a lecturer in Accounting. Previously Akrum held academic positions at University of Aberdeen, UK and Alexandria University, Egypt.
He is co-author of some academic papers and book-chapters, published by Journal of Business Ethics, LAP Lambert Academic Publishing, and IGI Global Book Series. His research interests are in accounting for sustainability, corporate governance and accountability, innovations in accounting education and religious individual responsibility towards environment and society. Akrum is an ad hoc Reviewer for highly ranked and international business journals and book publishers.
Akrum is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, an Honorary Research Fellow at University of Aberdeen and a Member at the Centre of Social and Environmental Accounting Research, the British Accounting and Finance Association, the European Accounting Association, and the Corporate Social Responsibility Middle East Network.
