Ahmed Ibrahim Yunus

I am a registered professional engineer (P.E) and a Ph.D. candidate in Environmental Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology with nearly a decade of experience researching, designing, and implementing water, wastewater, and stormwater treatment systems. My research centers on water resource recovery within a unified “ONE Water” framework, an approach that treats water as a single, integrated resource rather than as separate systems. I work across municipal and industrial water reuse projects, utilizing technologies such as membrane filtration, adsorption materials, and advanced oxidation processes. I also focus on optimizing anaerobic digestion systems for energy and nutrient recovery, applying life cycle assessment (LCA) to evaluate sustainability performance and machine learning (ML) tools to improve system efficiency. In stormwater management, I investigate cost-effective best management practices (BMPs), particularly the use of biochar-amended materials for highway runoff treatment. Through both academic research and practical implementation, I aim to advance circular and resilient water infrastructure solutions that translate scientific innovation into real-world impact.
