Adriana is interested in coral reef population ecology, hard coral reproduction and water quality impacts on marine populations using experimental and theoretical approaches.

Adriana is a marine ecologist with research experience in four countries (Venezuela, Australia, the UK and Palau). Her research is focused on the consequences of climate change on coral reef ecosystems, with special emphasis on corals and their reproductive biology.

As a research associate at the Coralassist Lab based at Newcastle University, Adriana investigates the feasibility of using assisted gene flow as a tool to restore coral reefs.

In addition to hands-on laboratory and field experience, in 2017 Adriana was selected to participate in Homeward Bound, a one-year-long leadership programme for women with a science background to learn the skills to influence policy and decision makers about climate change.
