Dr. Abigail L. Phillips is an associate professor in the School of Information Studies at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. She holds Master’s and Specialist degrees in Library and Information Science from Florida State University. In August 2016, Abigail began a Postdoctoral Fellowship in the Department of Instructional Technology and Learning Sciences at Utah State University. Abigail received her PhD in Information Science from the School of Information at Florida State University in Spring 2016. Her research interests include neurodiversity, mental health, madness, disability, accessibility, accomodations, and marginalized, underserved, and invisible communities, as well as cyberbullying and bullying. She also explores librarianship/library work as a practice and libraries as both institutions and critical community spaces.
Before entering the PhD program, Abigail worked as a public librarian in a small, rural Southwest Georgia public library system. Per the norm in public library work, she wore many hats - from developing and presenting story times to grant writing to building young adults sections three distinct library and providing outreach to the community through television appearances, regular visits to primary, elementary, middle and high school classrooms and libraries, social media management, and "duties as needed".
